Step-by-Step Guide to Offline LAN Minecraft Servers

9 February, 2022

Internet Connection

Minecraft, the immensely popular sandbox game, offers a wide range of multiplayer options, including LAN (Local Area Network) gameplay. LAN servers allow players to connect and play together on a local network without the need for an internet connection. Setting up an offline LAN Minecraft server is a great way to enjoy the game with friends or family in the same location. In this step-by-step guide, we will walk you through the process of creating an offline LAN Minecraft server.

Step 1: Prepare your networkEnsure that all the devices that will be participating in the LAN server are connected to the same local network. This can be a home network, a school network, or any other local network setup.

Step 2: Launch Minecraft and open a world for LAN

Launch Minecraft on the device that will act as the server host. Select the "Singleplayer" option from the main menu and open the world that you want to use for the LAN server. Once the world is loaded, press the Esc key to access the in-game menu.

Step 3: Enable LAN

In the in-game menu, click on "Open to LAN." A new settings menu will appear, allowing you to customize certain aspects of the LAN server. You can specify game mode, enable or disable cheats, and set the maximum number of players. Adjust these settings according to your preferences and click on the "Start LAN World" button.

Step 4: Join the LAN server

On the other devices that will be joining the LAN server, launch Minecraft and ensure that it is updated to the same version as the server host. In the Minecraft main menu, select "Multiplayer" and then click on "Scanning for LAN Worlds." The LAN server should appear in the list of available servers. Click on it to join.

Step 5: Play and enjoy

Once all the devices have successfully connected to the LAN server, you and your friends or family can start playing together. Explore the world, build, mine, and embark on exciting adventures together, just as you would in a regular Minecraft multiplayer experience.

Step-by-step Guide

Additional Tips:

  • Make sure that all devices are running the same version of Minecraft to avoid compatibility issues.
  • If the LAN server does not appear in the multiplayer menu, check that all devices are connected to the same network and that Minecraft's LAN feature is enabled in the game settings.
  • LAN servers are only accessible within the local network and do not require an internet connection. Keep in mind that players outside your network will not be able to join the LAN server.
  • LAN servers may have limitations in terms of the number of players that can join, depending on the capabilities of the host device and the server settings.

Creating an offline LAN Minecraft server allows you to enjoy multiplayer gameplay with friends or family on a local network without the need for an internet connection. By following this step-by-step guide, you can easily set up a LAN server, connect multiple devices, and embark on exciting Minecraft adventures together. So gather your fellow players, explore the vast landscapes, and let the creativity flow in your own offline Minecraft LAN server.
