Creating a Minecraft FTB Haven: Running Servers on Your Computer
9 December, 2022
Minecraft's Feed the Beast (FTB) modpacks offer a vast array of new gameplay experiences, bringing additional depth and complexity to the already beloved sandbox game. One of the best ways to fully enjoy the FTB modpacks is by running your own server on your computer. In this article, we will explore the process of creating a Minecraft FTB haven by setting up and running servers on your computer, allowing you to delve into the world of FTB with friends and fellow players.
Choose the FTB Modpack:
The first step in creating your FTB server is selecting the modpack you want to play. FTB offers a wide range of modpacks, each offering unique features and gameplay experiences. Consider your preferences and the type of gameplay you desire, whether it's tech-focused, magic-themed, or exploration-based. Popular FTB modpacks include FTB Revelation, FTB Infinity Evolved, and FTB Direwolf20.
Download and Install the FTB Launcher:
To run FTB modpacks, you'll need to download and install the FTB Launcher. The FTB Launcher is an application that simplifies the process of installing and managing modpacks. Visit the official FTB website (https://www.feed-the-beast.com) and download the launcher for your operating system. Once downloaded, install the launcher on your computer.
Launch the FTB Launcher and Install the Modpack:
Open the FTB Launcher on your computer. The launcher will prompt you to create an account or log in if you already have one. Once logged in, navigate to the "Modpacks" tab and search for your desired FTB modpack. Select the modpack and click on the "Install" button. The launcher will automatically download and install the modpack for you.
Configure the Server Settings:
After installing the modpack, it's time to configure the server settings. On the FTB Launcher, go to the "Options" tab and click on the "Open" button next to the modpack you installed. This will open the modpack's folder on your computer. Look for a file called "server.properties" and open it with a text editor.
In the "server.properties" file, you can customize various server settings, including server name, game mode, difficulty, and more. Modify these settings according to your preferences and save the file.
Start the Server:
To start your FTB server, go back to the FTB Launcher and click on the "Play" button next to the modpack you installed. This will launch the modpack with the server running in the background. You can access your server by selecting "Multiplayer" in the Minecraft main menu and adding the server's IP address as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" if you're running the server on the same computer.
Share the Server with Others:
If you want to play with friends or allow others to join your FTB server, you'll need to share your IP address with them. To do this, you can use online tools like "WhatIsMyIP" (https://www.whatismyip.com) to find your public IP address. Share this IP address with your friends, and they can join your FTB server by adding it in the Minecraft multiplayer menu.
Customize and Manage Your Server:
Once your FTB server is up and running, you can further customize and manage it to suit your preferences. Explore the server files and folders to add additional mods, plugins, or resource packs. You can also install server management tools like "FTB Utilities" to streamline administrative tasks and enhance server functionality.
